Bombers Please Note: This is a moderated forum and posts need to be approved. Unfortunately I did not realize I could approve posts. I still don't know how to do it. As a result I answered Kelvin in private emails. I am now posting the emails here as this information should have been in the forum. My apologies.

From Kelvin:

Castle,

Can you please explain the details of forumz.

Can't tell if it's the program or me.

==========

I set it to post 2 items.

Then I chose " create new topics for each post". When I do this, I
can't tell where one topic begins and the next ends.

See:

I was hoping to make a new thread for each topic.

=============

Also, forumz appears to take the content of the whole post. Some
bloggers may have a problem with you coping the whole post.

Question: Can we set a numerical limit. Such as 300 characters?

Kelvin

From Kelvin:

Hi Castle,

I found a minor bug.

When using SMF, forumz returns an " invalid field" error, if you have search engine friendly
URLs turned on.

As soon as I turned it off, the posting worked.

Hi Kelvin

Tuelz is a moderated forum so I can't answer in the forum till the post has been approved, so I will answer here. (private email)

Thanks for the update about the bug.

Kelvin: "Can we set a numerical limit. Such as 300 characters?"

Actually I set a limit of 250 characters. I think it may not be obeying it in phpbb. Here is the delimiter in the code: {description=250}, unless it got changed (by accident) when it was encrypted that is what it should be. (I had thought of making it larger to allow pictures, but that would require an input to set the limit-- that's an idea!)

I will likely have it looked at.

If you choose create a new topic for each post, it does do that but if you set it to 2 or 3 items it puts all those items in one post.

Best work around for that right now is just have more than one poster name, and set it to 1 item.

"Use an existing topic" works best if you enter the topic category in the setup and then it will make all the posts to that category.

And create a topic for all posts is supposed to create a new topic and then put all new posts in that topic. I had some trouble with this but when I tested to recreate the problem for the programmer it worked, yet I have some reservations because I am almost certain it was not.

I will try and have the 250 character limit fixed, and check into the "bug".

Providing I don't make any mis steps this will be done this week.

From Kelvin:

Thanks for checking into this.

But it seems to me SM that is not obeying the 250 character limit.

I was testing it to see if i wanted to use it. To take advantage of
your plugin. I like the idea of monteizing the forum.

So, i am actually using 1.07 because I dont have your plugin. Not sure
if that will make a difference.

Kelvin

Also,

if it takes the whole rss feed, it makes its, so you do not want
to autopost to anyone elses, forum.

So you may want to put in a warning, about this.

Thanks for your testing and observations. I am going to look into getting it to obey the 250 character limit, and or having the ability to modify it.

It was obeying initially but at some point it seems to have gone awry. I am wondering if the wrong character number was applied when it was encrypted. I have an unencryped version too, so I will do some experimenting with this.

Providing everything goes OK with me I will get this fixed and provide you with the update.

"So, I am actually using 1.07 because I dont have your plugin. Not sure

Here is the SMF plugin in (as an attachment), if you don't have it. Install the plugin first in 1.07 then upgrade to 1.08 from within Simple Machines. (Do not upgrade to 1.08 before installing the plugin.) Do not extract the plugin! Install it exactly as it is from within SMF. SMF recognizes tar.gz There are video instructions here: http://s174848735.onlinehome.us/

Thanks for your support.

Thanks, I will ad this and keep you updated.

NOTE: on phpbb, i noticed that it makes the same post day after day.
This is because the feed was not updated by the blog owner.

Suggestion: Include a way for forumz to note if it already posted the same
exact title in say the last week. Maybe have it cache recent posts, and then
read from the cache, with an if / then statement.

If the cache equals current feed, do not post.
IF the cache does not equal current feed, post now.

This should also be noted on your readme, because it could be embrassing
to keep posting the same thing over and over, not realizing it. That is a sure
way to get banned from posting to other blogs.

Thanks for all the good feedback. I will have this looked into also. Providing I am successful in having Forumz updated, I will send the updated version to you once completed (and any other bombers who want it. I will post here when it is done).
