This is actually tougher than it seems, as "comments" posted to a thread/rss pheed could contain the same subjects/titles.

They can even "quote" previous messages, which would make it very hard to detect doops vs. new threads.

I suggest either not using a pheed that doesn't update often, or set the timer to update less often.

It may be best to set up a bunch of projects, one per resource, with each not updating very often.

Also, "news" from The Newz Tuel using keyword searches is a good way to add content more often.
