It's not that I don't want to tip, but 15% of $1.61 is 24 cents. I paid with a credit card, so I'm not sure if it's worth the server's time or money if there's a fee to take that 24 cents since it's coming out of a credit card.

I have read server's stories where people tip a low amount and say the customers might as well have kept their tip.
I rarely ever carry cash because my work pays me with a check. I get charged $6 to cash it, or get charged nothing by depositing it straight into my bank account.
One other thing was, after I got a milkshake and was ready to pay for it, I waited several minutes for the server to take the payment, but they didn't, so I went up to the register.

I was out last night for wine and cheese and there was a corking fee on the wine (the wine was supposedly sold at retail instead of the typical restaurant mark up). Do I still tip on the wine and if so, do I deduct the corking fee first ($10)?

Also, if you ARE at a restaurant that marks it up instead of the corking fee, it seems an outrageous tip if you order a $100 bottle of wine. Seems wine should be a flat fee tip instead of a percentage. After all the wait staff does the same work whether you order a $20 bottle or a $100 bottle. Why should the tip vary based on the customers taste?
