I know at a restaurant like islands it only takes about 6 months to be a backserver and make tips, but at a place like cheesecake factory, for someone who has worked there please, how long does it take to get a position where you make tips? Went out for dinner last week. After the main course my waiter asked if I wanted to see the dessert menu. I said ok and he brought it over. He placed the menu in from of me and pointed to the cheesecake and said "I would recommend the cheesecake ."

I decided to follow his recommendation. When he came back I told him I wanted the cheesecake. He enthusiastically exclaimed "EXCELLENT choice!".

I had this weird feeling that his praise had more to do the fact that I followed his recommendation <"good dog!"> than the fact that he was happy that I was now going to enjoy a superlative dessert.

So was he being condescending? Or maybe I had had too much caffeine that day.... Thanks.

I've already checked on the website but all they call it is toast. The bread is long and thin and has scorch marks like it has been grilled. To be more specific the plate is called the Domestic Artisan Cheese plate. Its a very unusual cracker like bread with an almost smoky flavor, and it optimally complements the cheeses.
