Can someone explain a few things to me,
How does the 18% work? do they add 18% of your total bill to your bill? (ex: 10$ bill +18%= 11.80$ bill?) or do they take off 18% of the certificate when you first use it (say you go in with a 100$ certificate, do they take 18$ off right there?
And how do you get your balance back? if you go in with a 100$ certificate, you only order 20$ worth of stuff, is the certificate like a card and they just deduct the 20$ and you are left with 80?
Whats up with the minimum purchase amount? like one of the restraunts in my town says minimum purchase 200$... does that mean i have to order 200$ in gift certificates as a minimum (so 2 100$ certificates or combination of the lesser values?) Or does that mean the total amount spent on the certificates (i doubt) or the amount of money spent at the restaurant?

My husband and I are moving (with our 14 year old daughter) from the U.K. to Thailand for two years for a job. We need to decide between two schools.
The first is by far the more western in terms of education and attitude, but its means of being more western is essentially old school British (i.e. the U.K. of our parent's generation) and still employs the cane for discipline. The second school does not use that (at least not on girls), but our daughter would be the ONLY western girl in most of her classes (and while I want her to embrace a diverse clasroom setting, I don't want her to be the ONLY white girl either).
In fairness to the first school, they rarely use the cane and only for offenses that are clearly laid out. But I just feel like that seems so brutal and outdated. I'm not 110% against smacking, but I feel our daughter is way past the age when that is appropriate, and I am not sure I like the idea of a headmistress being the one to do it anyway (even though I do really like the headmistress from having talked to her). I was caned once in school (showing my age lol) and I can't say it did me any harm, but it just seems so outdated.....BUT, that school seems better in every other way.
One more hurdle in trying to live in a different culture for 2 years I guess.
