Open Question: Do you seriously have to be 18 to work at a firehouse subs restruant?
I went by there today and asked if they were hiring, but the cashier didn't know and the manager wasn't there, but she said print and fill out an application and bring it by tomorrow when he's there so I was like oh okay.

Well I just started filling out the application and it says, are you at least 18 years of age? I put no, but there was no other blank to say If not, how old are you? When there isn't anothe blank to state your age, they typically chunk your application right away if you aren't 18. I'm 16, but seriously? You have to be 18 to slap on a few slices of cheese and mayo? If you do, that's pretty bogus :/ (You have to be 18 to work at booksamillion now because you handle a lot of money, but I don't understand because you handle money in any job you get lol)

But the cashier didn't look at all to be 18 and neither did her coworker. They were both teens, but you never know. I've seen people who've looked 16 that were actually in their early twenties.

Resolved Question: Large fast food chains: Why is there no law against this?
You know, the large burger chains, the advertising pictures of their burgers look oh so good but the product comes out looking like a pathetic, shrunken, flat, half cold, pathetic looking thing with a wilting piece of lettuce stuck on top. How do the big burger chains get away with this? Surely it's false advertising and I bet a small business would get punished for it.
I know, Soxrcat. But every burger you buy is falsely advertised.
Greg, that has nothing to do with this question. The burgers look different than the advertising. Plus I didn't mention any company in particular.

Open Question: Dollar store or Dollar menu? hmm?

Open Question: How do Europeans make their coffee at home, if at all?
My understanding is Europeans drink espresso-based drinks and never ordinary brewed coffee. Americans make themselves brewed coffee at home or sometimes buy it from coffee shops--brewed coffee is not as strong as espresso, so it is cheaper. First, is it true Europeans don't drink brewed-at-home coffee (percolator, French press, drip coffeemaker, etc.)? So do they always have to go out for their espresso? Or do people have espresso machines at home?

Yes, I am posting this in a German forum, hoping to hear from true Europeans and not Americans. But if you know of how Europeans outside of Germany consume their coffee, too, please enlighten me.
Mary, good info, thanks. I for some reason thought espresso makers were crazy expensive, but they are within reach for the average Westerner. And I didn't know stovetop espresso makers even existed.

Yes, I was aware some Americans have espresso machines. But I would venture to guess that most have a plug-in drip coffeemaker--or if not that, something like a French press or even an old-school percolator.

I have found the quality of Starbucks coffee to vary tremendously from store to store, so I am not always a fan. I guess it depends on whether the person preparing it knows what he or she is doing. Some smaller local shops in my city are far more consistent and of high quality.
I met some Germans, and they were reminiscing about coffee back home (i.e., in Germany) being "pressurized"--I believe they were referring to espresso.
Yahoo!, if I went to that Jamia person's link (since removed), did I run a security risk? Is s/he collecting personal info? It looked like a Yahoo! Answers page but not quite right....

Open Question: Can your last name get you special treatment at a restaurant?
I went out to dinner tonight with a friend and I made reservations on the restaurant's website. Just for fun I decided to put the reservation under Vanderbilt to see what would happen. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess asked me if I was related to THE Vanderbilts and I responded with "Yes, but by marriage."

Anyway, at the end of the night the manager brought out our bill himself and didn't charge us for our alcohol!

Do you think he did this because he thought I was someone special?? Maybe I should pretend to be an heiress to a railroad fortune more often!
I did nothing illegal. If they were to ask me my real name I would have told them... Lighten up!

Open Question: A burger & fries on the shelf for 180 days? Is that unusal?
When I first read that story on the Yahoo Page I freaked out. But I got to thinking well just before the burger & fries went into the bag they were indeed fried. The bun likely did have a good presevative (a good one I guess) and the the lady put it into unto a glass cake cover or something. It has no longer any outside bacteria anymore than the day it came off the grill? Is this no different than in any other clean enviroment if it is'nt than well does anyone have any other ideas. What about other food that has just come out of the pan and into the clean room. So whats the lowndown on this folks????

Open Question: How can fast food restaurants make their food healthier?
I'm doing a persussive speech
1: Switch the high fat, greasy oil for cooking to vegetable oil.
2: Use antibiotic and hormone-free meats (panera bread) (chipotle)
3. Get produce from local suppliers, which guarantees freshness.

any other ideas?

Open Question: Los Angeles 16th birthday?
Hiiii, i'm planning to have my 16th birthday somewhere in LA. I live about twenty minutes from there, so travel isnt a factor. Anyway, I have a few questions for anyone who has any good insight on LA restaturants, shows, that stuff.

So I was planning on taking eight girls (including myself) in a limo to a restaturant and then to a a show. What are some nice quality restaurants (not in-n-out or anything) that would work well for teenage girls? Second, does anyone know of any shows/movies (at el capitan/pantages or something) that are coming out around december?

Thanks(:
