It's not something that's happened often to me. But if your video
is blatantly geared towards making money off of the user and short
on helpful information - you might have trouble getting
your video accepted as a video response. The owner of the viral
video will need to accept your video as a response for the strategy
work.

Here's a tip that can help with that.

If you think you'll run into such a problem here's a simple fix.

Send a personal message to the owner of the popular video in advance.

Tell them that you're about to upload your video as a video response.
Tell them how much you'd appreciate it if they'd accept it and in exchange
you'll tell all your subscribers about THEIR video. You could also
give them a link to your product as a gift.

This invokes the "rule of reciprocity". Works every time."
