I used something called Team Viewer when I was travelling last year it lets you view your entire PC remotely. It's FREE which is always good and once you get on to the remote PC you can work pretty much at normal speed.

You can download it free at http://teamviewer.com it's well worth putting on your PC's and laptops if ever you think you might need to access remotely anytime.

I assume this would work for gaining access to a server. All you do is download a small app to the server and then you can connect pretty easily.
