#0, The Death of Writing! Writing is Dead! Long Live Video!!!

We're seeing all sorts of newslettters, blogs and forum posts about how article marketing is dead.

They get into how you have to write good, long articles.

I don't agree or disagree...But I will say this: What neither side realizes is that writing itself is declining as an SEO tactic.

Think about this: Forrester Research, a MAJOR marketing company that's well respected by the "big guys" says:

IT IS 50 TIMES EASIER TO GET A VIDEO ON PAGE 1 OF GOOGLE THAN ANY OTHER MEDIUM.

http://blogs.forrester.com/interactive_marketing/2009/01/the-easiest-way.html

Think about this and let it sink in...

The main thing about video marketing is generally speaking it takes longer and is harder to out source or get done cheap and well.

One tool which makes it easier is Animoto but you really need the pro account to get maximum benefits from this.

The videos are really good Kurt I think I have some others which people might like. Once my PC with the hard drive of that sort of stuff is repaired I will try and post them up.

I have been using video to promote some of my local clients sites with them doing a sort of late night TV commercial but using a video camera instead of an expensive studio.

Do you think Google(Youtube) will see infomercials as competition to their own advertising and penalize them or will they see them as informative.

Infomercials seem a really good way of getting a message out and it's great to tell clients to show their customers they have a presence on the internet.

Has anyone else been using this form of marketing effectively as I think when you combine this with the link building possibilities it's got great potential.

A friend set me these TV advertisements from the UK but I think you could see the potential to make funny videos promoting products.

It's hard to predict, but I see Google being more worried about all the video "spinners" and the blantant spam videos more than "infomercials".

Yes the biggest concern for YouTube I think is copyright especially music and videos of movies. The UK had a big problem with this and they stopped allowing any music at all for a while.

Think that issue might have been resolved as they seem to have some now. Or maybe it's because my settings are for US not really sure.

As for informercials I think they could get more and more popular as people get using the net more remotely. Maybe there is a opportunity for making informercials for mobile websites?

Here's something I've been messing with, but haven't spent as much time with it as I should...

Here's a javascript scroller that uses <LI> html tags to scroll text and images on a page:
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex2/sagscroller.htm

Here's a quick example:
http://www.dombom.com/scroller/Noname1.html

This is just a simple, very basic example...I took a Wikipedia page for people "born today" and applied the scroller js to it.

Now use something like Camtasia or Camstudio to do a screen recording of the scrolling text and it's much quicker than making Powerpoint presentations for videos.

If you just want to make a couple of videos, this technique probably isn't worth the effort, as you'll need to adjust the scroller as well as the CSS to get the look you want.

But if you have tons of PLR articles and can do a search/replace to get each paragraph to use <li>, this is a very fast way to convert a lot of articles into videos.

Also, try adding some animations or photos from www.Morguefile.com to make them more visually appealing.

And because it uses html pages and CSS, you have all the control of design those options give. You can add fancy background images, change fonts, colors and more. Another suggestion is to use an iframe where I have a pic of the penguins and have it refresh to pages containing different impages...There's plenty of possibilities.

Then add some royalty free music and maybe a voice track of you reading what's on the screen, and this is a pretty good way to crank out a bunch of videos. It's also pretty good for doing step by step "how to" videos.

Again, don't do this is all you want is a couple of videos. But if you have a lot of content you want to convert to video, it's much faster to set this up than it would be to use PowerPoint (or OpenOffice) to create slide shows.

Maybe not for everyone, but for those good with html/css and have a good grasp of Tuelz, this can be a powerful option for creating a lot of videos and for repurposing your PLR articles (without having to rewrite them.)

Hi Kurt,

I have no CSS knowledge, but can do some html.

But, thinking in this line, there have been a couple of teleprompter softwares that may do something similar.

Great tip.

Hey Thanks Kelvin...

Did you use the html/css version or the teleprompter software?

With HTML, these can actually look pretty good using good looing backgrounds.

Kurt,

I used the teleprompter software.
Probably from 3/4 years ago.

From teleprompter, then played that and used
screen recording from within camtasia.

I could have dressed it up with transitions and such.

But just for the sake I speed, kept it simple.

Kelvin

Here's some text to speech software that looks interesting that may be good for turning articles to audio for use in videos, etc. I haven't tried it (yet) but it's only $9.95.

http://imagestopdfconverter.com/image2pdf/text-to-voice.html

"Text to Voice Converter Software converts word documents into WAV audio file. You can record PDF, Word, plain text, PowerPoint files, web pages, and convert them to speech automatically. Word to Sound Software record books, articles, web pages, official papers, class notes or any other text content you want to have available to you in audio format. It is also a great way to check your writing for grammar and spelling errors. Text to voice converter program is able to reads all text documents including eBooks, news, web pages, RSS feeds, html, clipboard, PDF, word, excel, rtf file, plain text, email, etc"

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to put out a warning. It seems Google/Youtube is cracking down on marketing videos. I'm not sure if it's just internet marketers as this is only case I've seen, but since something similar happened with adwords and adsense a while back I think this may become more of an issue for SEO'ers.

I got emails this week from Jeff Johnson, the guy who runs the "Underground Training Lab" site. He posted to his blog about how youtube shut him down. You can see the posts here:

http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/2725/youtube-shut-me-down-and-i-dont-know-why-part-1/

They also terminated his youtube channel, and he claims they gave him a "strike", but in the same day, terminated his account.

Since this thread is about videos I wanted to at least let everyone know to "proceed with caution". I've seen a lot of products promoting the use of video lately for getting on to page 1 of Google, but we have to work smart as well. I've already paid the price with adsense and adwords before.

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks Ron...

I have a feeling that the simple scroller technique I posted above may also have some problems. I have a feeling that some type of narration may be needed in the near future and that just converting article to "text videos" is something that may not work soon.
