Hi everyone,

I have a couple of quick questions about hosting Fat Bombs. Can you guys help so I can get up and running?

I've been trying to find out just what type of account I need. I've asked a couple of people and I get different answers.

My question is, do I have to have a dedicated server to put up and run a FB site if I use the minimal settings? Or is a dedicated server the recommended way?

In other words, can I run and build a good serch site using a reseller's account if I am not going to sell space on this account to anyone else?

Now, if I do need a dedicated server, does anyone have a couple of good recommendations? The cheaper the better, but I do want quality.

Thanks....

Mary

Hi Mary,

It really depends on how busy of a site you have...But, a reseller account will probably do, although it depends on each host.

There is an option in "between" reseller accounts and dedicated servers called "virtual servers", where you typically have 1/5 - 1/4 of a server and they are manages for you.

Virtual servers are typically about $50 a month, and are a good balance between power and control and price.

Another option is to us the free program HTtrack and "suck" the dynamic pages to your hard drive, making them static html pages, then uploading to various hosts. This will reduce the server resources needed.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for the detailed answer. I saw your notation in another thread regarding the static pages. That was my primary reason for asking about a reseller's account.

I think I am going to go with a VPS just to make life easier with room to grow the site without interupption. Someone read my post and sent me a PM on where I can get one for a good value.

I've only been part of this forum for a couple of days and got more info in here than what I would get in most places. It seems to be a good forum and I look forward to be a contributing member.

Again thanks to you and the others that helped!

Mary
