"The YOU Rank"

LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-10 AT 09:55 PM (PST)

NOTE: Below is a post I made almost 5 years ago. I've pulled it from the archives from another DomBom forum.

It's good to go back once in a while and revisit old topics...

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-05 AT 00:08 AM (PST)

A while back I theorized about "People Rank"...I think the next "rank" Google will use is "You Rank", as in, "Who the hell are YOU?!?"

I think it's time, or past time, that we start getting rid of our G oo gle bars. Between your bar and your adsense account, you're telling google much more than you should.

Google bar now has a "spell check" for input forms, which is fine and dandy, but it also means they can easily be tracking everything you type into every form, connecting your Adsense account to everything you type into a web form. Not good, not good at all.

With all the page makers and dedoopers, Google will HAVE TO REACT, they have no choice, and instead of tracking web pages, I believe it will soon be easier, and more effecient, for Google to track a high number of webmasters.

Be very hestitant to mix affiliate IDS. It's the money trail that all the engines will be forced to follow. You need to start seperating affiliate programs using different whois, IPs, etc.

The Original Domboms were all about mixing and matching affiliate programs. I don't think this will be wise in the future.

I believe people are creatures of habit, and once a spammer, it is very likely that that person will be a spammer in the future, and if I wanted to really stop SE spam, I'd follow the money trail, trying to "cross-reference" any affiliate numbers that I could...If I banned one of your sites and I can tie you to another, I may just penalize your new site for no other reason than it is YOU.

The question now becomes, if you accept that google can track you from adsense and the bar, and google's main mission right now isn't search but data mining, why wouldn't they track you and factor this into their Algo?

Let me also add that, in theory, You Rank could also help you...If you have "good sites", it may be beneficial to also think about "You Rank" and lump them all together.

   Thanks Kurt

...and we have the resources to be able to split our money earners across different domains so we no longer need CJ and adsense and Searchfeed on the same domain - better to have a new domain for each one and no links between them.

The bars gone as of now. Alexa too.

As far as tracking by affiliate id's, wouldn't using plain url's and mod rewrite to redirect those url's to an affiliate id keep your privacy?

I've been switching out my aff id's with this method so I can swap out merchants as I see fit - the privacy issue is a bonus.

Peace,
White Wolf

Not in this case...Google's reach is far beyond that. They are tracking what you're doing in your browser, not your websites.

If we assume you have BOTH the Google bar and Adsense, Google knows everything.

If you log into AdSense using your Bar, Google can assiciate your Bar with their AdSense info and track you wherever you go using a browser with their bar.

IMO, the PR bar is a way to sucker webmasters into using their bar. Now, they add spell check, so they can read everything you every type into a form, then compare it to your Adsense info, and not only record everything you type on the web, but exactly who you are, your bank, SS#, address, phone number, and more.

If you later log into Searchfeed, the Bar can tell google that you logged into the affiliate program at SF and potentially read any affiliate ID you have. Any website with this info will tell Google you own it.

Then, the get you to use their desktop search so they can index all your files on your hard drive.

On top of that, they give you Gmail and track every word you type or receive in email.

Google isn't a search company, it is a data mining company.

Veeeeeery Interesting ...

Thanks Kurt!

Ya know what? If MS didn't have their own competing search engine, there would probably be a WinGoogle (like the WinTel connection) behemoth out there.

Google seems to be going ALL out!

Here's more:

Google engineer Matt Cutts' blog: "Blackhat SEOs may be leery of using Google for analytics, but regular site owners should be reassured."

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-analytics/

Remember:

1. Google considers just about any type of SEO to be "blackhat".

2. You heard about "You Rank" here first. IMO, You Rank will be the biggest thing to EVER impact SEO and will be like a credit report. I strongly suggest you stay out of Google's system at ALL COSTS if you want to stay in this game long term.

Because of all the page makers and sentence rewriters, link mafias, and article directorites that will be turned into spam, the engines will need to react and we'll start seeing more and more People Rank and You Rank.

9. "RE: The YOU Rank"

   Hi ,
I'm gona add to this with an article I got this morning from axandras newsletter. They say think twice before signing up with analytics even if all your sites are legit.

"
Yesterday, Google released a new service with the name Google Analytics. Google Analytics is basically a rebranded version of Urchin, a web analytics service that Google purchased in March.

What is Google Analytics?

Like other web analytics services, Google Analytics is a service that tells you where visitors to your site are coming from, what links on the site are getting the most traffic, what pages visitors are viewing, how long people stay on the site, which products on merchant sites are being sold and where people give up in multistep checkout processes.

The main difference between Google Analytics and other web analytics services is that Google Analytics is free. In exchange for sharing your data with the company, Google doesn't require you to pay directly for their analytics service.

Should you use Google Analytics or should you stay away from it?

Why is Google Analytics free? Does Google have to give money away? Of course not. Google will find ways to monetize this service. There is no such thing as free lunch. Everything, even what is seemingly free, must be paid for by somebody in some way.

Google already knows a lot of things about you. If you also use their new tracking service, you will tell Google how much you earn, when you earn it, which products you sell, how often you sell them, how much you spend for ads on other sites and you will reveal much more information about your online business.

Ask yourself if you want Google to know that much about you and your company. Do you really want to share your revenue information with a company that also wants your advertising dollars? Do you want to share your revenue information with any other company at all?

Google officials have declined that they will use the data to better understand how much you are willing to pay for ads, based on conversions. They also claim that they do not plan to tap into the data as a means of improving regular search results or to identify bad sites. Nevertheless, these things are easily possible if you use Google Analytics.

Google engineer Matt Cutts even writes in his blog: "Blackhat SEOs may be leery of using Google for analytics, but regular site owners should be reassured." That sounds as if Google might actually use the information for other purposes.

Think twice before using anything that is "free"

While Google's new analytics tool looks great at first glance, you should think twice before using it. The market power of Google can make your business highly dependent on Google if you decide to use all of Google's services. The more Google knows about you, the better they can get your money.

If a company in the real world asked you to tell them everything about your interests, the shops you visit, the magazines you read, your full address, your revenue and a lot of other very detailed and confidential information about you and your company then you probably wouldn't give that information to the company.

When it comes to Google, many people happily reveal information they wouldn't even tell their friends. Be careful.
"

Jonathan

Hi Kurt

Happy Christmas to you and all Bombers.

I'm re-reading this post for the second time today.

Am I right in assuming that your comment regarding 'lumping them all together', would indicate that your 'good' sites would all be on one domain or at least, one IP, in order to benefit from a good "YOU ranking"?

If that is your contention, I may have a site that we can 'test' the theory on over the next few months.

I have been 'building' it for some 4 months now and currently have almost 20 sites sitting in folders not linked-to currently from the front page. And even that is a 'placeholder' for the moment.

Each site is in a niche (some interrelated), with 8-15 pages of (quality) content that, if not absolutely unique, can be made so, relatively easily, as I have the 'rights' to the content and can change it as required.

I also have a relatively unique library of about 500 or more articles, in various topical areas, again with the ability to change at will, some of which will compliment the above sites, some of which will form the basis for additional sites.

I can also, from my desktop, call up approximately 300,000 re-print articles, and can 'snippet' them

I have roughly 20 domain names and 7 available hosting options, 3 of which I have activated as of now.

I have never had the G Bar, nor have I got an AS account (yet).

So I am starting as a relative 'virgin' as far as 'G' is concerned.

If you consider the above to be viable 'test-bed' for the 'YOU RANK' theory, then I will be glad to act as 'guinea-pig', with results available for all to view.

I'll refrain from posting the URL here and now, in case you decline my offer, but it is a genuine offer, if you feel it would be of benefit to the wider community.

As to my motivation - why have I suddenly sprung to life?

I got made redundant 2 weeks ago. I have 8 weeks to replace my offline income. At my age (over 55) my options are limited, therefore I have been examining the 'assets' that I possess and the avenues down which I can best exercise those assets.

This is one which 'stands-out'.

I have spent most of the day here, re-acquainting myself with the various strategies and techniques you advocate - ( Yeah! On Christmas Day - sad old f*rt ain't I?) - so I figure if I can help you with my offer above, you may feel better disposed to help me when I have questions.

By that statement, I am not inferring that help has not been forthcoming in the past - far from it - both Kurt and Kirill have gone out of their way to help, when I had difficulties a couple of months back. It's just that I'd like to help and be considered a more 'integrated' member of the community, if that makes sense.

If you would like to go forward with this, let me know and I'll post the URL and we can all learn by 'action'. Sort of 'recon by fire'! ( John,(Ezrydn) among others, will know what I am referring to.)

I look forward to hearing from you all, if you consider this might be of benefit.

Kind regards

Ian

Ian,

Thanks for the offer...

Right now, this forum isn't very active and I'm keeping it open mostly for support, if anyone needs it.

In a couple of months I hope to expand on this subject, but have other obligations I need to take care of first.

But again, thanks.

14. "MSN Commercial Intention"

Along the same line of thought, here's a new concept by MSN that tries to determine the probablity their "Commercial Intention and the confidence score":

http://adlab.msn.com/OCI/oci.aspx

This is why all your sites/pages should use different "formulas".

REMEMBER, you don't have to put a revenue stream (FINGERPRINT) on every site you do. You can use some sites/domains to steer traffic to your revenue sites.

When it comes to SEO, remember to always mix it up within your own networks.
