"FatBomb Engine File Updates"

Kirill will try to update the Fatty engine files that can be updated this weekend. They will be part of this month's downloads, starting March 20, but will be little late.

If he can get those done, I'll create some "how to's" to show some things we can do with Fatty to make pages and sites...

Kurt,

Is this Phatty update file for ALL copies? And will the update raise the version number of the application? Just wondering.

John,

Fatbomb isn't being updated, the engine files are.

Download Fatty Engine files here:
www.dombom.com/iframes/fatty-updated-engines-3-23-09.zip

Upzip
FTP to your Fatty install(s)
/engines - in the "engines" folder, delete all existing .pl files.
Upload the new .pl files to the "engines" folder.

Now go to your Fatty admin, click "engines" and select the new engines you want to use, and apply any "weight", if desired.

Note: The engines we scrape change often and these may break at any time.

If you want to save these for a length of time, in Fatty admin, click "configuration".

For "Cache Results from Engines (days)": Set to 365.

This will keep any searches performed on a specific engine in a cache and saved for 365 day.

Good: Makes Fatty much faster to use cached results and the results are saved, even if the engines change and Fatty can't scrape them any more.

Bad: Take up room on your host/server and won't update until after the cache expires.

If you want to use the cache for a longer time, I suggest you perform many of your top searches. Fatty won't cache anything until it is searched for.

A good way to do this is to "make pages using FatBomb" following the tips listed on this thread:
