Don't get lost...The thread linked to below is in the public forum, not this BombSquad forum, but here's a thread that contains a lot of places to find RSS pheeds:

You have Google's blog search...
http://blogsearch.google.com/?tab=wb

This will help you find blogs which almost always have RSS pheeds.

But even better:
1 do a search for blogs using a main keyword
2 click "sort by date"
3 Click the RSS link in the left column

4 Now grab the URL of that results page and put it in BlogBomb. This URL is for the keyword "vegas":
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&tab=wb&q=vegas&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d

Just change "vegas" in the URL to your keyword(s) and you have a great RSS pheed.

Note: las vegas nevada (use the sign for more than one word)

But you also have Google News which will return an RSS pheed:
http://news.google.com

Follow the same procedure as above...Don't forget to click the "sort by date" link. This is IMPORTANT as it will list the newest items first, essential for updating your content.

SAme for Yahoo News:
http://news.yahoo.com

Technorati:
http://feeds.technorati.com/search/test?language=en

BlogDigger:
http://www.blogdigger.com/

Ice Rocket
www.icerocket.com

And when it's up and running, Daypop can be good, but it is very unreliable:
www.daypop.com

All the above will give you RSS pheeds using keywords...Very good for building pages.

Learn the structure of each URL and locate the keyword(s) in them...Then all you have to do is change the keywords as you wish to give you tons of content.

I found this list of RSS pheeds...I haven't tried them, so you'll need to experiment.

Usually you will need to use general keywords with RSS and can't get too specific. Any optimizing for long-tail keywords will need to be done on other parts of the page...

Substitute your keywords for key word using this format:
las vegas

For Google Blog Search you can create EXACT searches by adding " (quotes)

so for Las Vegas (all words) would be...

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&tab=wb&q=las vegas&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d

For Las Vegas (Exact) would be...

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&tab=wb&q="las vegas"&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d

Hope this helps.

Blessings,

Ed

I recently went through the list above and a few that I regularly use and can confirm that the following are working (as of yesterday). The sites do change their search parameters as well as some are no longer available:

http://answers.yahoo.com/rss/searchq?p=KEYWORD

http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?format=rss&FORM=RSRE&q=keyword

If you are using an RSS rewriter script some of the above won't properly work. Test each url with your replacement keyword before relying on them.

Another good site for locating keyword based rss feeds is:

http://www.researchbuzz.org/tools/kebberfegg.pl

I was recently reminded of that site by a free WSO Basement Blog Network.

   Hi,
I am having a little trouble finding the pheeds and understanding the results that I am getting from these. I used a few of the above sites and here are the results that I have got.

As I have mentioned earlier. I am building a site about harry potter. So, I am looking for feeds related to it.
here they are.

Could you please take a look and tell me what to do with these:
http://www.feedsfarm.com/s/harry potter wands&format=rss
http://answers.yahoo.com/rss/searchq?p=harry potter wands
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?format=rss&FORM=RSRE&q=harry potter wands

http://www.bloglines.com/search?q=harry potter wands&ql=en&s=f&pop=l&news=m&format=rss
(the above links show a page in rss format. So, how do I use it and how do I find out what the content looks like. Or do you advise me to just use whatever is given there)

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&tab=wb&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d&q="harry potter wands" (This one shows a page which contains content on harry potter from lots of different blogs. So, is it okay for me to use their feeds as content? So, how do I use those results? )

Is there a criteria to choose from among these?

I also checked out the research buzz site mentioned by top hat bob.
What categories should I choose from there. And what about the formats - html and opml .

Thanks.

Bye,
faraz

HI Faraz,

Paste the list of URLs into BlogBomb.

BB1 you will have to enter each one at a time, BBX2 just paste in the list.

Now, if you also have Fatty, the results of the pheeds will appear in your search results.

These RSS pheeds update automatically and change over time, so you get new, updating content.

You can also add the results to web pages. If you have articles about Harry Potter that others also use, put some RSS on that page so that your page is different from the others.

In Faraz's case, BlogBomb is a database of Harry Potter blog posts and news. BlogBomb will go out on schedule (cache) and check for updates to the pheeds.

BlogBomb 2 can then search all the news items and display only stuff that contains certain keywords. For example, you may only want "items" that contain the word "rollins", for example.

The same could be/should be done for all major characters and keywords.

Create a page, then put all items containing an character on that page, repeating with all viable keywords.

To leanr how to technically add rss to pages, please see the thread:

Well, the problem is that blogbomb asks for the html as well as the xml urls and I dont know which ones to use.
I have written more about this in the "putting rss on pages" thread.

I have fatty although I havent upgraded yet. So,what should I do and how will the results of the pheeds appear in fatty?

I didnt understand what you meant by blogbomb is a database of harry potter blog posts and news. sorry for being dumb. I am trying to learn as fast as my small brain allows me to.

Well, I dont have blogbomb 2 , haven't upgraded yet. But now, I am really thinking of getting the upgraded versions of fatty and blogbomb.

I have posted in the thread that you mentioned. Hope you can clear it up for me.

You need Fatty 2.0 to work directly with BlogBomb. I posted a thread for this.

However, there is a work-around, I'll post about this, see #4

Hi Everyone,

I have a "beta" version of a an RSS creator that I am developing.

I wanted to offer it free to all the BombSquad folks. With a couple of conditions.

1. Please do not distribute it.
2. Please give me feedback as to what is working or broken.
3. If you have feeds that you think should be added please let me know
4. If you feel like it, a testimonial
5. Maybe a name for the product?

Thanks!

It's too big for me to upload here: http://acquirewisdom.com/tmpfiles/keywordRSS.zip

Make sure after unzipping to rename the setup file to "setup.exe"

Merry Christmas,

Ed

   Great program Ed! Thanks!

It installed nicely and worked the first time I put a keyword into it.

I wasn't too sure what to expect but it makes a tedious job of replacing keywords in the keyword enabled rss feed urls a breeze.

Click a button and have an entire keyword list formatted as ready to use rss urls. Good stuff.

I really like the way you can add your own feeds to it.

One minor bug. The drag and drop URL feature works fine in Firefox but not IE7.

Can't think of a name right now.

But I do have a request. Can you get it to read and save the feeds it creates into a text file on your hard drive?

For example, if I am looking for the latest content about video games I would enter my keyword list of 8 consoles in it and 8 x 30 feed urls would be created. Now I want to press another button and have it save the feeds as text files in a project folder, like video games. A scheduler would be great also that checks every XX hours and saves a new text file of feed data.

No problem paying for coding especially when it works.

Thanks again!

Top Hat Bob

I'm on it! Haha! Didn't even know it could do that. I guess I should read the instructions

I think it can do this already. At the bottom right. Above "Quit" is the "Save List" button. It will save a a txt file one feed per line. Is this what you are talking about?

>

Hmmm. Not sure what you mean as scheduler.... If you mean saving the feed data itself, then I would use tuelz (newz tuelz)

I would see it like this:

1. use this to create all the feeds for your keywords.
2. paste the feeds created into newz tuelz for automatic scheduling of getting the latest information.
3. Use Scrubz to clean and upload the RSS feeds to your servers.

Is this what you're talking about?

Sorry, if I missed your meaning.

Merry Christmas!

Ed

P.S. By the way, what do you think some think like this could sell for?

Close, but what I want is like newz tuelz but no other features - just a button that you click to save the RSS feed files to the hard drive. I am lazy.

>P.S. By the way, what do you think some think like this

No idea on the value to others. I had a macro set up in Excel to replace the Keywords but now I am finding that there is a limit to how many of these dynamic feeds my server can process.

Like most things, as soon as you figure out an easy solution to help scale things up, small problems start to surface.

I am working on a more static solution where I take the relevant lines of text from the saved RSS feeds and create feeds using the black hole script that are not blackhat.

Another good source with lots of categories.

John Reese is behind it (BlogRush) so the quality of the blogs is better than you'd expect and most have easy to use RSS feeds.
