If you are reading this message then you should put yourself at the top of the list for getting one of Kurt's premade sites.

Can you do it yourself, probably. But can you do it yourself in just a few minutes?

If you are in need of content, this is the way to go.

I purchased this a few days ago and am now getting started.

In step 2 you say: 2. Set permissions: commentz.dat = 666

I cannot find the "commentz.dat" file. Where is that file? (I do know how to change the permissions but not if I can't find the file.) Is it supposed to be in the "website" folder that I uploaded in step 1?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Virginia

Virginia,

Sorry about that...

Just open your favorite text file and save a "blank" page as commentz.dat

Then upload and follow the directions.

This file is where Commentz stores any posts made until you approve/disapprove them.

Thank you John. I did that.

Now I am up to the instruction about modifying your RSS/LML feed.

It says:

"Using any text editor, open island-vacations.xml"

Where on earth is "island-vacations.xml"? I cannot find that anywhere either.

Thanks in advance again,

Virginia
(still the clueless newbie)

Should be:
medical-tourism.xml

Again, I apologize.

BTW, my name is Kurt, not John. I'm only quoting John Lee Hooker.

Oops, sorry about your name Kurt. smilie('')
smilie('')

I'm not up on jazz musicians (had to search on Google). Please accept my apologies.

Back to the topic of the medical tourism site.

I feel a little lost here. I made some changes on the medical-tourism.xml document. But then what? Am I to upload it to my webhost?

In fact, I have a feeling that a lot of steps are still missing from the instructions. When I type in my domain name all I get is:

Index of /

Name Last modified Size Description

Parent Directory 07-Aug-2007 13:42 -
< > Commentz.dat 14-Aug-2007 15:56 0k
Website/ 10-Aug-2007 10:13 -
cgi-bin/ 07-Aug-2007 13:42 -
< > commentz.dat 14-Aug-2007 16:32 0k

Are there additional instructions that are not included in the readme document that I am supposed to be following?

Sorry, but this is new to me and I feel lost.

Thanks in advance,

Virginia

Hi Virginia...

Yep...Just upload it, making sure that the "auto discovery" tag points to the RSS pheed. This tag is in the header of the index page.

Also, make sure that this matches Box #4 in Commentz:
4. RSS index page (your RSS pheed):

As you add new pages or updates to exisiting pages, the RSS pheed will automaatically update.

To test that this is working, add a new comment to a page or add a new page using the "add a new page" link on your SITE. It must be on your SITE, not PC.

Approve the page or comment, then check to see if the RSS pheed was updated.

Then select the relevant "ping" resources and be sure to "ping" each time you add a new page or comment. This is a great way to build links and traffic to your site over time.
